How to Hire a Carpet Cleaning Professional

Maybe your beautiful dining room rug got gooped up, stained, and torn up thanks to years of abuse at the hands/paws of your toddler, pet, or possibly husband. Or maybe you just discovered that your elderly parents have been suffering due to allergies brought on by old, dirty carpeting.

In any case, you want good carpet cleaning help, urgently.

While you can “do it yourself” (DIY) using state-of-the-art vacuums, cleaning tools and a lot of elbow grease, you can save yourself time and energy by leveraging the services of experienced carpet cleaning professionals. In this short blog post, we’ll go over some questions to ask prospective carpet cleaning professionals in the San Francisco Bay area:

  • What services does the company provide?
  • How long has the company been around?
  • What do past customers have to say about the company? (Ask to see direct testimonials)
  • What certifications, training, warranties, insurance do the professionals have?
  • Will the carpet be vacuumed before the cleaning? (This is a standard practice in the industry. If the carpet is not vacuumed, the end result could be shoddier – significantly so).
  • What training do the technicians go through, internally, to meet the needs of clients?
  • Will the company provide a free in-home estimate?
  • Will the company provide a written agreement before work commences?
  • Will the company charge for removing furniture, preconditioning the carpet, removing routine spots?

Warnings:

  • Any company that contacts you out of the blue – using a robot call, for instance – should be suspect.
  • Any company that offers you “price per room” quotes should be suspect – the estimate should be based on the total surface area that needs to cleaned.
  • Just because a company uses credible products does not mean that the company is affiliated.
  • Be sure to look at certifications and ask about the technician’s formal training.

  • David Mirfin:

Why is pricing per room suspect? Certifications by what organization? Affiliated with who?

    • Elegant Carpet Care:

Great questions thank you for asking. We are informing the consumer that an honest carpet cleaner should be able to give you a precise quote over the phone based on the square footage of each room but yes a guesstimate would be appropriate based on an average bedroom size. Only to be cautious with the companies who can not and/or are willing to give you an exact quote only based number of rooms because chances are you are going to be over quoted. Looking into a companies certifications are important to ensure the companies crediblity. To check the company is certifed, then to check the credibility of the certification. Being IICRC certified is probably the most reputable. As far as the affiliates we are only educating to not assume the company is affiliated only based on the products the company is using. Again thank you for the comment and questions.
